Laura Woods, RDH
The Dental field has always been a passion of mine. In 1999 I graduated and worked as a Dental Assistant for 7 years. I then decided to return to school to further my education in Dental Hygiene. Graduating in the year 2007 from the University of Alberta, I continued to work in private practice for 10 years. Within my final maternity leave of our third child, I decided to direct my focus towards Independent Dental Hygiene. Legislation changed in 2006 allowing Dental Hygienists the freedom to practice on their own. My goal for Mint was to develop a partnership with retirement homes to help serve the seniors on a more personal level. Providing onsite Dental Hygiene care to seniors directly within their retirement home, without compromising the level care, allows seniors to continue the link between oral health and overall health. Focusing on providing a high level of care while making this service affordable was my top priority.
Another division that I wanted to add to Mint’s service was Family care. My experience in general practice revealed the stress dental appointments can have on families with young children. With our mobile service we have the ability to go directly to the homes of families where we can work within the comfort of their own home.
I am excited for the future of Dental Hygiene and even more excited about the footprint Mint will leave in this growing industry
